FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
LOGISTICS
How do I get to The Escape from Manila?
The most popular way is via the Partas Bus from Cubao or Pasay. Look for the “Vigan” or “Laoag” bound buses and ask to be dropped off at the San Juan, La Union surf area. For a more comfortable trip, the Partas Luxury/Deluxe bus offers reclining seats and a faster travel time.
If you’re coming in a group, private car rentals take about 4–5 hours via the TPLEX.
What are the check-in and check-out times?
Check-in is from 2:00 PM, and check-out is until 12:00 PM. If you need an early check-in or late check-out, please contact us in advance, and we will do our best to accommodate you based on availability.
Do you have on-site parking available?
Yes! We provide limited on-site parking for our guests on a first-come, first-served basis.
If you’re visiting during a long weekend or peak surf season, try to arrive early to secure a spot!
Is there a reliable way to get around San Juan from the Lodge?
Everything in the main surf town is within walking distance! For exploring further out (like the Urbiztondo food park or Bacnotan), tricycles are easily available right outside our gate. You can also rent scooters locally if you want more freedom to explore the coastline.
Do you have a restaurant or food service?
We serve fresh, flavorful meals inspired by local Filipino cuisine. You can enjoy your food with a stunning view of the sea right from our dining area.
VIBE
How far is The Escape San Juan from the beach?
We are just a few steps away! The Escape is located in the heart of San Juan, literally a 10 second walk to the main surf break. You can wax your board in our courtyard and be in the water before your coffee gets cold.
When is the best time for surfing in La Union?
The main surf season runs from October to March (the North Swell), which is when you’ll find the most consistent waves. However, the “South Swell” from July to September also brings great waves for beginners and intermediate surfers. If you want smaller crowds and glassy water, the “shoulder months” of April and May are a local secret.
What is the “vibe” at The Escape?
We lean into a relaxed, social, and tropical atmosphere. We aren’t a high-intensity party hostel; we’re a place for people who love the ocean, good music, and meeting fellow travelers. Expect sunset drinks on the deck and quiet, restful nights so you’re ready for the “dawn patrol” surf session.
Are there good places to eat nearby?
You are in the culinary heart of LU! The Escape is walking distance to iconic spots like Tagpuan, El Union Coffee, and Great Northwest. Whether you want cheap local eats or high-end fusion, you’ll never go hungry.
POLICY
What is your cancellation and refund policy?
e understand that plans can change! For a full refund, please cancel at least 14 days before your check-in date. No-shows or early departures are non-refundable.
If you need to reschedule due to extreme weather (like a typhoon warning), get in touch and we’ll do our best to move your dates for free.
What is your policy on visitors and extra guests?
o maintain the “Escape” vibe for our staying guests, our rooms have a maximum occupancy limit. Visitors are welcome in the common areas until 20:00 PM, but only registered guests are allowed to stay overnight. This helps us ensure the lodge stays quiet and secure for everyone.
Do you have “Quiet Hours”?
Yes! To make sure everyone is rested for the early morning surf, we observe Quiet Hours from 12:00 AM to 7:00 AM. We’re all for social sunset drinks, but we ask that the volume goes down late at night so your neighbors can sleep.
